EUReKA! Program – July/August 2025 | Returning to Summer Science Outreach

The Microbiology Outreach Foundation (MOF) was excited to return to Thompson Rivers University’s EUReKA! Summer Camp during July and August 2025, continuing its partnership with one of Kamloops’ premier science enrichment programs for youth. Designed to inspire curiosity through hands-on learning, the EUReKA! program introduces campers to a wide range of STEM disciplines while encouraging them to ask questions, think critically and discover the excitement of scientific exploration.

Building on the success of the previous summer’s outreach, MOF once again had the opportunity to introduce campers to the fascinating world of microbiology. Throughout the sessions, students explored concepts that are often invisible in everyday life, discovering that bacteria are not only all around us but also play essential roles in the environments we live in and within our own bodies. By presenting complex scientific ideas through engaging demonstrations and interactive activities, MOF helped make microbiology approachable for learners of all ages.

Unlike a traditional classroom setting, summer camps encourage students to explore science through movement, creativity and experimentation. Campers were encouraged to ask questions, participate in discussions and work alongside MOF Leaders as they investigated the hidden microscopic world. This relaxed and interactive environment allowed students to build confidence while discovering that science is something they can actively experience rather than simply read about.

One of the greatest strengths of the EUReKA! program is its ability to connect young learners with scientists, researchers and university students who are passionate about sharing their knowledge. These interactions give campers the opportunity to see firsthand what a future in science could look like while helping make STEM careers feel both accessible and achievable.

MOF’s continued partnership with EUReKA! reflects a shared commitment to inspiring the next generation of scientists through meaningful, hands-on experiences. By returning to the program for another summer, the Foundation was able to strengthen its connection with the Kamloops community while continuing to spark curiosity about the invisible world of microorganisms. The Microbiology Outreach Foundation is grateful to the EUReKA! organizers, volunteers and campers for another memorable summer of scientific discovery. MOF looks forward to continuing this partnership and helping more young learners discover that some of the most fascinating science happens on a microscopic scale.
